State Youth/Senior Tasmania State Trip

State Youth/Senior Tasmania State Trip

The Labour Day holiday weekend was more love, than labour, for our Senior State Squads who competed in the combined Age and Open Championships held in Hobart.    The team of 8 swimmers, team manager and coach Brad Harris enjoyed their first interstate competition as a squad with another 4 swimmers from the club independently swim the championships.

Ryan Nolan spearheaded our medal tally on Saturday night bringing home Silver in the Men’s Open 50m Fly, missing out on Gold by just 0.06 of a second.  As the most senior swimmer on the team, he is truly living the mantra “swimming is for life”.   He also brought home Silver for the Open Men’s 50m Freestyle in another inspiring swim on Sunday evening.

Niesha Happell weighed down the plane on the way home with her haul of 4 medals, 100 Fly 16-18 Girls Silver,  100 Fly Open Women’s  Silver, 100 Breast 16-18 Girls Bronze and 200 IM 16-18 Girls Bronze.

The Monaghan sisters raced each other for the first time in a final event for 200m Free 16-18 Girls with Jacquie taking home Silver and Jess making a huge PB to come in 5th place.     Jacquie also received a Silver medal for her amazing 400m Free 16-18 Girls swim.

Ben Richter made huge personal best times in every race swum and broke the magic minute for his 100 Free for the first time in Hobart.

Kirsten and Kiera both made finals with Sven, sadly sick in bed all weekend with a throat infection.

Other club members, the Dobell-Hall twins, Emily Bresnehan and Jess Norton who travelled to the championship as individual members all made finals with Alexandra earning herself a Silver medal for the Girls 11&under 100 Back, Victoria a Bronze medal for the Girls 11&under 100 free, Jess a Silver in the Girls 14-15 100 Free and Emily Gold medals for Girls 14-15 100 back, Women’s open 50 fly, Silver for Girls 14-15 100 fly and Bronze for Girls 14-15 200 back.
