Melbourne Vicentre Swimming Club is recognised for providing a pathway from Learn-to-Swim, beginning with learners from three years, through squads for swimmers from eight years to elite internationally competitive athletes and on to squads for adults enjoying a mix of competitive and social swimming
The MVC coaching program is headed by Platinum Licence Swimming Coach Ian Pope who leads a highly qualified and experienced team. MVC is one of Australia's premier clubs, is a designated Swimming Australia Podium Performance Centre and also receives support from the Victorian Institute of Sport with the training of its elite athletes. MVC is home to almost 600 members including competitive members, parents, coaches, officials, life members and adult swimmers.
Melbourne Vicentre Swimming Club (MVC) was formed in 1988 following the amalgamation of Melbourne Aquatic and ACI Vicentre swimming clubs. The Club is affiliated with Swimming Victoria, the peak body for swimming in the state and Metro District South. MVC amalgamated with Malvern Swimming Club Inc. in 1996.
Empowering swimmers to be champions in life.
To lead the swimming community through successful partnerships, participation growth and performance excellence. We aim to foster good citizenship and the capacity within every individual to reach their full potential in the sport of swimming and in life within a supportive environment for the swimmers and their families.
Based at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC) at Albert Park, the Club is proud to be located at the best training facilities in Victoria with MSAC acknowledged as Victoria's principal swimming competition venue. With indoor and outdoor 50m pools along with additional 25m pools, a variety of year round training opportunities are available. MSAC has hosted over 40 international events and is home to a number of Olympic athletes from swimming, diving, squash, basketball and table tennis. Melbourne Vicentre is proud to have coached many Victorians onto Olympic and other international teams, from MSAC.
Melbourne Vicentre has a sister club association with the Itoman Swim School Group from Japan. Each year MVC hosts a representative Itoman team during the Victorian Championships, billeting 8-10 swimmers and supporting Itoman coaching staff throughout the Championships. In return, every fourth year Itoman extends an invitation for a team of swimmers to attend the Itoman Invitational Age Championships. An MVC Team most recently travelled to Osaka in November 2013.
